U.S. equity ETFs are dominating trading. Tech stocks are increasingly being sold off. Emerging markets are coming into focus. SpaceX continues to drive demand for space-themed ETFs even after its IPO. Outflows are prevailing in the precious metals sector.
June 16, 2026. FRANKFURT (Deutsche Börse). The buying frenzy in ETF trading continues. Although there were no major savings plan executions last week, Frank Mohr of Société Générale reports a clear buying surplus amid high trading volumes. Equity ETFs, in particular, are very popular. These products account for 80 percent of trading volume, while bond ETFs account for only 20 percent. “Normally, the bond segment accounts for at least one-third,” explains the trader.
Broadly diversified U.S. equity index funds are currently in particularly high demand. The main purchases are the S&P 500 ETFs from iShares (IE00B5BMR087) and Vanguard (IE00B3XXRP09), as well as the iShares MSCI USA (IE00BYVJRR92). As in the previous week, Mohr sees profit-taking in the technology segment. There, the Invesco EQQQ Nasdaq-100 (IE0032077012) and the iShares Nasdaq-100 (IE00B53SZB19) are being sold in the majority of cases.
U.S. stocks remain the top choice
Global index funds also present a mixed picture. While the MSCI World ETFs from iShares (IE00B4L5Y983) and Amundi (<LU1737652237>), as well as the Vanguard FTSE All-World (IE00B3RBWM25), are in high demand, Mohr reports outflows in the State Street SPDR MSCI All Country World (IE00B44Z5B48).
Beyond these two dominant categories (accounting for two-thirds of turnover), there is significant buying interest in the Amundi MSCI Emerging Markets Swap (LU1681045370) and the iShares Core MSCI EM IMI (IE00BKM4GZ66). European stocks are less popular, even though the Euro Stoxx 50 has just hit a new all-time high. Mohr reports a large number of sell orders, particularly in the iShares Core EURO STOXX 50 (IE00B53L3W79).
Tech ETFs Outperform All Others
Technology index funds remain the leaders in sector ETF trading. Compared to the previous week, however, their share of trading volume has fallen from 60 to 40 percent. “Nevertheless, interest here is still very high,” explains Mohr, referring to it as a “sector that outperforms all others.” Following the recent profit-taking, the ratio of buys to sells is “fairly balanced” this time.
The iShares S&P 500 Information Technology (IE00B3WJKG14) and the Amundi MSCI World Information Technology (LU0533033667) are being sold off. On the shopping lists are the Xtrackers Artificial Intelligence & Big Data UCITS ETF 1C (IE00BGV5VN51) and the iShares Electric Vehicles and Driving Technology (IE00BGL86Z12). Sven Seipp also mentions the VanEck Semiconductor (IE00BMC38736), which has risen 70 percent since the start of the year. “This index fund is generating the highest turnover in our tech ETF sector,” says the ICF Bank trader.
Both traders also report, in connection with SpaceX’s IPO, a further increase in trading volume and strong buying in the VanEck Space Innovators (IE000YU9K6K2). “Some are using the recent price drop of around 25 percent as an opportunity to buy,” says Seipp, analyzing the latest developments.
Crude Oil in Demand, Precious Metals Under Pressure
The commodity ETC market is dominated by crude oil and precious metals. Following the potential end of the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, the price of oil has fallen significantly. However, many investors appear to doubt the sustainability of this trend. Seipp reports high trading volumes in the WisdomTree WTI Crude Oil 3x Daily Leveraged (IE00BMTM6B32). In addition, the broker reports significant outflows from the precious metals sector. He sees sales primarily in the Invesco Physical Gold EUR Hedged (XS2183935274) and the WisdomTree Physical Silver (JE00B1VS3333).
